I work in the NHS so more money and more scientists are always needed because we’re understaffed quite a lot of the time and we have to be very careful with how we spend our money. If we can convince more people to become biomedical scientists that would definitely help but we would also need more money so we could pay them!

I wish that people in academia would value real-world application for their research more. Things are changing, but the way that academic science is judged is still a bit outdated, in my opinion. There’s often a big gap between policy and science and I wish that would change. So more of a cultural shift than a change in legislation.

I would change a lot about academic culture, lots of projects don’t have huge life-changing outcomes and because of this are funded less and looked down on but all science is important!

I would say the biggest thing that would have an impact is to improve staffing numbers. This would free up more time to improve the service and foster innovation as well as helping with work-life balance.
