that’s a great question.. I’m quite fond of them all but I think one of the most interesting I’ve come across is one of the lesser known ones – a bacteria called Enterococcus which is resistant to the antibiotic vancomycin. Enterococcus are interesting because they live in our gut but can survive pretty well outside in the environment too, because they’re really good at exchanging genes with other bacteria, because they can make you sick, and because I once found a type that actually needed drugs to grow – so if you had that one making you sick and you took antibiotics your sickness would only get worse! Plus they look really cool when you grow them – they can look black.
