I was a university student when the first Ebola outbreak first started, so I wasn’t working back then. I studied microbiology at university, so me and my course mates were interested in the outbreak which meant we were learning a lot more about Ebola and viruses in general!
I wasn’t specifically working on the ebola outbreak but I did teach my undergraduate students about it. I think it helped spark their interest in microbiology, especially viruses.
I was working in a big NHS lab, I remember it was coming up to new year and I new I had the relevant skills to go and help. I told my manager I wanted to go and help out with the crisis and the lab staff and my manager supported me in doing so which was good!
